What We Believe

What We Believe - This page explains what the owners of the Small Group Publishing Company and contributors to this website and Bible studies believe about God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

About God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit

We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God.  He's an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe.  God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections.  God is all powerful and all knowing; and His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures.

We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son and the eternal Son of God.  He was born of a virgin, was crucified as punishment for the sins of mankind severally, was resurrected on the third day, ascended into heaven, and is coming back soon to rule and reign for evermore.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine.  He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures.  Through illumination He enables men to understand truth.  He exalts Christ.  He convicts men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.  He calls men to the Savior, and effects regeneration.  At the moment of regeneration He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ.

About Salvation

We believe that the only way to eternal salvation is through your personal belief that the blood of Jesus is all-sufficient for the penalty of sin and an acceptance of him into your life as Lord and Savior.

We believe in salvation by grace alone, and that salvation is immediate and eternal upon acceptance of Jesus as a one-time sacrifice for your sins, and not obtained through any works, sacraments, traditions or merits of our own.

About the Bible

We believe what the Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.

It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right."

Tyndale House Publishers, Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Carol Stream, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, 2013), 2 Ti 3:16.

We also believe what 2 Peter 1:19-21 says:

"Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets.  You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.

Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God."

Tyndale House Publishers, Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Carol Stream, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, 2013), 2 Pe 1:19–21.

In summary, we believe that although men physically wrote the Bible, what they wrote was both initiated and inspired by God.  What we have a result are God's instructions to us for our daily lives, which teach us the right way to live and correct us when we are not living correctly.
